Buy a fabric placemat and fold up one end. Sew straight lines on folded end, into separate pockets.
Place opposite end of placemat between box springs and mattress of bed and you have a neat little remote caddy!

Thank you Happybird! I found this suggestion online just after the holidays and tried it. Fabulous. I made one for my husband and one for myself in minutes, after trying several earlier, uglier and less useful commercial versions. Target happened to have major deals on placemats after the holidays, so that worked out well too. Problem solved.
