Many THANKS to Annie B. for her generosity in sharing instructions for making a CD shaker ornament!
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
CD Label paper
Transparency sheet(s)
Cardstock – your choice of color/pattern
Laminate sheet for cardstock
Fun Foam – your choice of color
Micro beads for snow (or glitter, etc.)
Ribbons and embellishments of choice
Adhesive (I used Diamond Glaze)
Dryer Sheet
*Test print CD label template to ensure it fits your CD; make any adjustments necessary.*
You can find the CD label template at: http://www.jersgirl.com/
Look under "free templates."
PREPARATION STEPS:
1) Select graphics and size to fit onto the CD template, covering the inner circle.
2) Print onto label paper and cut on the outer rim of the template.
3) If you want to highlight any of the graphic areas with glitter or paints, do so at this time and set aside to dry. (I let mine dry overnight before assembling.)
4) Laminate the front side only of the sheet of cardstock.
5) Cut 1 circle from laminated cardstock to fit the back of the CD; do not cut out the center of this circle.
6) Cut 1 circle from laminated cardstock to fit the front of the CD; then, cut out an inner circle to the size needed to display the graphics you have printed.
7) Cut 2 circles of fun foam, sized to the CD.
8) Cut inner circles from both of the foam pieces to display graphics you have
printed and set aside. (These cuts should match the inner circle cut from the
laminated cardstock}
9) Glue the foam pieces to each other to form a stack.
10) Cut 2 circles from your transparency sheets, using the CD label as a guide, but for better and easier placement, trim the transparency circles slightly smaller.
ASSEMBLY STEPS:
After Each Step, set aside until adhesive is dry to prevent sections from slipping
during the assembly of the ornament.
1) Remove label backing from the graphics circle and smooth onto CD. (If you
printed on paper other than the label paper, adhere with adhesive to CD.)
2) ON OUTER RIM EDGE ONLY, adhere one transparency circle to the top of the graphic circle you attached to the CD.
3) Glue the fun foam stack to the top of the transparency circle (on the CD), being careful in placement to prevent adhesive and finger smudges.
4) Using the dryer sheet, lightly rub the transparency circle that is glued over the graphics, and also the side to face the graphics on the other circle of transparency.
This will help prevent static cling of your beads, glitter, etc.
5) Carefully pour/spoon the beads, glitter, etc. into the circular opening created by the foam stack.
6) Adhere the second transparency circle to the top of the fun foam, being sure to glue the inside rim edge to prevent the beads/etc. from escaping.
7) Glue the laminated circle of cardstock to the top of the stack, being sure the
adhesive is on both inner and outer rims to seal and attach all layers.
8) Once all layers have had ample time to dry and set, attach ribbons, buttons, and other embellishments of choice.
