I found a bird pattern on parents.com, so I thought I'd play a little and bring out my stiff felt, glitter and glue. I'll string some ornament thread through the top wing when I'm finished. In order to receive a pattern yourself, you'll have to register on parents.com~After you register, click on the purple link below and you'll be able to download the bird pattern:

Making the little bird was very easy. I traced the pattern on stiff felt and cut it out with detail scissors. The stiff felt I used just happened to be pre-glittered. Using a foam brush, I brushed Aileen's jewel glue on the wings and beak. I pressed the parts into Martha Stewart's ultra fine glitter in the color Florentine Gold. After everything dried, I hot glued the one wing on the red bird, then added some self-stick embellishments to his tail. Tip: It's better to make the wing out of stiff WHITE felt. I noticed the darker red is tougher to cover with glitter. You can do one, two or three rows on the tail, however, I just did one. I picked up several packages of embellishments in the Michael's dollar bin. Lastly, I used a dot of shiny black puffy paint for the eye. TIP: When the glitter has dried, a foam brush works terrific for brushing away the excess glitter off the felt.
When I have all my birds finished, I'll be poking a small hole on the top part of the wing and stringing gold ornament thread through the hole. If you are doing a bird themed Christmas tree, this ornament would be a cute addition.
*TIP: If you'd like to decorate both sides of the red bird, just cut out an additional wing to attach to the backside and use the same process as you did on the front.
