Beautiful Glittered Rocks for Glowing, Glass Candle Display

These glittered rocks were very easy and inexpensive to make and they do create a stunning candle display, however, they take some patience with drying time. What you'll need is: a cheap bag of large, smooth rocks from the Dollar Tree, a sponge brush, Aileen's Clear Gel Tacky Glue, ultra-fine glitter (I used Martha Stewart's ultra-fine glitter) . I would not use any other kind of glitter except ultra-fine. This is what gives the rocks a classier look. Lastly, you'll need a small can of clear, glossy acrylic spray.

Start out by thinking of who you are going to be making your candle display for. What colors do they have in their living room, dining room or bedroom? Choose 2-3 colors that will best coordinate with their decor.

Next, choose the glass candle holder you are going to use. Don't limit your imagination! You may want to take a look at some thrift stores or garage sales for inexpensive cut-crytal glass plates, plain water goblets, etc.

There are several different methods for glittering your rocks, however, I used the one below:

Squirt some clear gel tacky glue on the end of your sponge brush and brush an even coat on top of rock. Sprinkle ultra fine glitter on the top of the rock and very gently tap it down with your finger. Allow to dry about 4 hours. Turn the rocks over and do the same thing on the other side and allow to dry another 4 hours. Now, dab a little coat of glue with your sponge brush around the edges of the rock and sprinkle glitter. Allow to dry 4 hours.

Your rocks should now be completely dry. Pick up each rock and tap the top with your index finger to shake off any excess glitter. Take rocks outside and place on waxed paper. Give the tops of the rocks a light spray with acrylic spray and allow them to thoroughly dry. Turn them over and do the back of the rock the same way. Allow to continue drying outside or in a well-ventilated room for several days. This will allow the rocks to "cure."

After choosing a candle to place on your candle plate or in your candle holder, arrange your glittered rocks around the candle. If you are using a candle holder, you may want to use beach sand (you can find it at Walmart in the candle section) and then place the candle in the sand with the arranged rocks. It all depends on what colors and theme you are going for.
