Adorable Bird Ornament Pattern and Instructions!

Bonnie J. AKA "Jazbo" has very generously given me permission to post her adorble felt birds, along with pattern and instructions on my blog. Thank you, Jazbo! These little birds would make cute ornaments on your Christmas tree or you may want to reduce the pattern size and make little pins, or add to your homemade cards. So many possibilities with these little guys! If you'd like a closer look, just click on the picture above and it will open up in a larger window. You can download the pattern below inAdobe PDF format. Just click on the link at the bottom of this post.

You Will Need:

Felt
Matching embroidery floss
Buttons
Ribbon
Light-weight Wire
Beads for eyes

General Instructions For all birds:

BEAK: Fold in half; glue or stitch together. Set aside for now.
WING: Cut out & embroider around. Set aside for now.
BODY: Cut out & fold in half. Stuff it or not - it's up to you.
Insert beak & work buttonhole stitch over it. Continue sewing till
about half-way around. Insert legs. Continue sewing till
almost 1/2" from the end. Make 3 loops from 6 strand
floss & insert. Finish stitching & tack securely.
RIBBON LEGS and TAIL: Ribbon - Cut a 7" piece of 1/4" ribbon. Tie a knot 1/2"
from each end. Fold in half.
WIRE LEGS: Take a 15" piece of light-weight wire.
Measure 1 1/2" from one end, & make a bend. Bend it again, about 1",
then twist it back on itself. You have made one 'toe'. Repeat 2 more
times. Now twist the wire a couple of times at the first bend.
First leg is made. Make a bend & repeat as for the first leg.
When you insert the legs into the body, take a couple of stitches
to secure them before continuing on with the buttonhole stitching.

CARDINAL:
Make as per General Instructions with these changes:
Cut 1 1/4" slit at the fold where the crest goes. Insert & stitch.
Sew on the black 'mask' when you are finished stitching the
body together.
FINISHING:Sew on beads for eyes
Sew wing & button to the body.
