I was inspired to make this little snowman from a pattern I found on bhg.com.
I downloaded the pattern and saved it to my hard drive, however, I only used the body and hat. Click on the following purple link to download your pattern:
1. Cut the snowman's body and hat from the downloaded pattern.
2. You are going to need TWO snowman bodies, because you will be gluing them back-to-back. That way, when you turn the snowman over, it will look nice. First, take two pieces of STIFF white felt, one on top of the other. Trace the snowman's body (with a pencil) onto the top of one of the pieces of felt and cut the two out together. Now, you should have two snowman bodies. Next, you are going to cut out the snow hat. You will also need TWO snow hats, as well. So, cut two hats out of felt, just like you did the snowman bodies, and set aside. You can use any color you wish. I happened to find some red, textured felt at JoAnn's Crafts, when I spent the day in Yuma, Arizona. I wish I would have picked up more, because it made a great snowman hat.
3. Take the snowman bodies and match them up, so you will know what side to put the glitter and glue on. Take a sponge brush and generously spread Aileen's Tacky Glue on top of both snowman bodies. Elmer's Craft Bond Glue in the bottle will work just as well. Sprinkle Martha Stewart's Ultra-Fine Glitter in the Color "Crystal" on top. Allow to dry thoroughly. Gently tap off any excess glitter.
4. Use your low-temp hot glue gun and glue the glittered snowman bodies back-to-back. Next, hot-glue a snow hat piece to the front of the snowman's head. Then, line up the other hat piece and hot glue it to the back of the head. Carefully, hot glue it around the edges to close the hat. Cut a strip of regular felt and hot glue it all around the rim of the cap. Add a pom-pom to the tip of the hat.
5. For the snowman's scarf, cut a long strip of regular felt (any color you wish) and cut some fringe on both ends with your scissors. Wrap it around the snowman's neck to see where you want to place it. Put a few drops of hot glue under the scarf to hold it into place.
6. For the finishing touches: Use deminsional fabric paint (puffy paint) for his eyes in "Shiny Black." You can make a carrot nose out of orange felt, however, I chose to use deminsional fabric paint in "Shiny Orange." Lastly, I made his mouth with Shiny Black deminsional fabric paint. I think the mouth was the toughest part for me to make. I would recommend making practice faces on a paper plate (with the puffy paint) before making it on your snowman. I drew a mouth with a pencil and traced it with the puffy paint. You can embellish your snowman any way you want. I chose to hot glue a snowflake brad on his hat. I also glued flat-back red heart rhinestones for his buttons and a round rhinestone on his scarf. Lastly, punch a small hole at the top of his hat and string ornament thread through. Have fun with this project!
