This is a 1952 recipe from the Los Angeles Unified School District. They served these cookies in the school cafeteria. I tried this recipe and they are great! This was back in the "good ol' days" when every school had a kitchen and lunches were prepared from scratch. Not like now where most school lunches come ordered processed and prepackaged. At least they do where I live. If you have time, try this recipe!
1 cup butter
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 large beaten eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups rolled oats
2 cups cornflakes
1/2 cup coconut
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup walnuts
CREAM TOGETHER: Butter, sugars, eggs, vanilla.
SIFT TOGETHER: Flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt.
MIX: Creamed mixture and flour mixture together.
STIR IN: Oats, cornflakes, coconut, chocolate chips, walnuts.
DROP by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased, parchment paper lined cookie sheets. Flatten cookies with palm of hand.
BAKE in a preheated 350 degree oven for approx. 10-14 minutes.
Cool and eat!

These sound YUMMY!! Thanks for the recipe.:)
I was in the first grade in 1954 ,but I remember the peanut butter squares we had back then. They were really big and delicious. I was lucky enough to get the oportunity to make them and many others for the kids where I worked for 30 years. I hope I still have that recipes somewhere. It was my favorite then and still is.I am so glad I got to make and serve so many of the wonderful cookie recipes during my service there, for the school kids to have as memories.I have many of those now grown kids forever asking me for specific recipes. It makes me so happy that they liked them that well.I don't remember us serving that particular cookie, but I do remember seeing the recipe in our big school cookbooks.
